2019 Tesla Model 3 deliveries grew +117% vs. 2018, QoQ and YoY growth stats

Tesla’s vehicle production and delivery numbers for Q4′ 2019 are out and gives us a clear picture of the entire 2019, let’s dive into the pluses and minuses the automaker has went through the last year.

Tesla Model 3 is the main catalyst that has taken Tesla to the mainstream, when Model 3 deliveries started in 2017 the company only aimed to deliver 100,000 cars in total (including the S and X) but in 2018 Tesla delivered 237,850 Model S, 3, and X, that is more than +100% growth year-over-year (YoY).

Compared to 2018 Tesla has delivered 367,200 cars with an overall growth of +54.3% and is expected to expand further next year as Gigafactory Shanghai gets in full throttle with Model 3 and Model Y production, and Tesla Model Y production starts according to plan, hoping for around half a million global deliveries shouldn’t bother anyone (see table 1.2 below).

Tesla’s growth from the first to the last quarter of 2019 has also been due to the massive deliveries of the Model 3, in Q3′ we saw a -1.4% decline in Model S and X deliveries but in Q4′ it has surged to +11.7% compared to Q3′ 2019, Let’s look at table 1.1 below that shows Tesla’s production and deliveries growth in terms of QoQ last year.

Tesla (TSLA) has defied all expectations this year with the production and delivery numbers when we see them as a whole, in Feb last year Tesla CEO Elon Musk set the higher end expectation of Tesla deliveries to be 400k cars but at the lower end it was 360k which Tesla has surpassed easily with the helpf of record deliveries in Q4′.

The most interesting part is that the Tesla Model 3 deliveries actually spiked a whole +117% compared to 2018 (see table 1.2 for detailed numbers) — this exponential growth in Model 3 deliveries has resulted in the automaker’s overall delivery numbers to grow by +54.3% when put against the numbers from previous year.

The announcements of the Q4′ 2019 production and delivery numbers by Tesla on their investor relations website yesterday has resulted in the rise of TSLA stock price as the share price reached its all-time high of $443.01 on Friday yesterday.

With the Tesla Model Y and expectedly the Semi Truck going to production in 2020, Tesla‘s production and delivery numbers are only going to show growth when next year we will be doing this same comparison.

Bloomberg Survey: Model 3 Owners Are Tesla’s Biggest Sales Force
