Former Top Gear co-host Richard Hammond crashed a rare electric super-car Rimac Concept One while preparing for his show The Grand Tour. Fortunately Mr. Hammond was able to get out of the car all by himself moments before the car burst into flames and was entirely totaled.

This was one of the eight total ever made Concept Ones by the Croatian super car manufacturer Rimac Automobili. The Grand Tour team issued the following statement yesterday following the accident:

“Richard Hammond was involved in a serious crash after completing the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland in a Rimac Concept One, an electric supercar built in Croatia, during filming for the Grand Tour Season 2 on Amazon Prime, but very fortunately suffered no serious injury. Richard was conscious and talking, and climbed out of the car himself before the vehicle burst into flames. He was flown by Air Ambulance to the hospital in St Gallen to be checked over revealing a fracture to his knee. Nobody else was in the car or involved in the accident, and we’d like to thank the paramedics on site for their swift response. The cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated.”

A video of the crash (below) caught from a distance probably by a mobile camera was also posted by The Grand Tour and asked the fans to pray for Richard Hammond’s health who was flown by air ambulance from the crash scene to the hospital.

Jeremy Clarkson who was present at the Hill Climb event said “It was the biggest crash I have ever seen” in the following tweet:
