Jaguar I-Pace wins awards at the 2019 New York International Auto Show

Jaguar I-Pace sweeps accolades at the 2019 New York Auto Show

Jaguar’s all-electric compact SUV has swept all three World Car Awards at the 2019 New York International Auto Show — 2019 World Car Of The Year, World Car Design Of The Year and World Green Car awards were received by Jaguar’s Director of Design Ian Callum.

This is the first car in the past 15 years to win all three awards in every category, the Jaguar F-Pace won 2 awards in 2017 except for the World Green Car. Nissan Leaf won the World Green Car award last year at the same event.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr. Ralph Speth expressed his joy in a statement after winning all three accolades:

It is an honor that the Jaguar I-PACE has received these three accolades from the prestigious World Car jurors. We started with an ideal, to move towards our Destination Zero vision; zero emissions, zero accidents, and zero congestion. I-PACE is our first step to achieving this, and it was conceived when EVs were little more than a niche choice. So we started from a clean sheet of paper to create a new benchmark – the world’s best premium electric vehicle, and a true Jaguar driver’s car. For I-PACE to be awarded 2019 World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car gives our first all-electric vehicle the ultimate recognition it deserves. I would like to thank the team who have created I-PACE for their passion in making it so outstanding.

According to Jaguar’s official press release, the automaker has delivered more than 11,000 I-Pace electric SUVs in 60 different customers, this is very limited production and delivery but still impressive for a traditional car company’s first EV.

In addition to the recent awards, Jaguar I-Pace has earned around 62 accolades from around the world, according to Jaguar statement:

The I-PACE has received 62 awards since it was revealed little more than a year ago, including European Car of the Year, German, Norwegian and UK Car of the Year, BBC TopGear magazine EV of the Year, China Green Car of the Year, and Autobest’s ECOBEST Award.

Jaguar is offering two variants of the I-Pace, the I-Pace S and I-Pace First Edition for the United States customers starting at $69,500 and $85,500 respectively — unfortunately, with an increased cost of $16,400 customers don’t get any additional electric range i.e. 234 miles (estimated) for both. The higher variant though offers many additional interior, exterior and convenience options with 20″ wheels instead of the 18″ on the base model.

Surprisingly when pressing the ‘Compare’ link on Jaguar I-Pace’s web page it does not compare the various models but a chart pops up with a brief comparison with the Tesla Model X (screenshot below).

Jaguar has been comparing the I-Pace SUV with the Tesla Model X since the launch of the car last year, the British automaker promoted the Jaguar I-Pace in an advert showing it defeating the Model X in a couple of races, Jaguar earned some criticism as well on this act. We did an in-depth spec-to-spec comparison of the Jaguar I-Pace vs. Tesla Model X last year to help potential owners in making the right choice.

Jaguar I-Pace First Edition also performed very well on the Laguna Seca Raceway, recording the best lap time for an electric vehicle, this attempt at the Laguna Seca was arranged in conjunction with the Motor Trend magazine (video below).
