Model S November News Updates

Model S Glass Roof, Mind Control, Try Model S For 1 Week – Nov Updates

Welcome to the 2nd part of the November updates on Tesla this week, I’ll try to cover all the important and latest stuff about the Model S in this post. Hope you’ve come out of the Black Friday fever and have some money left in the bank to enjoy Christmas.

1. Model S Gets Glass Roof Like The Model 3

Nov 4, 2016 was a day for Tesla’s frenzy of news and updates, the same day Elon Musk announced on Twitter that;

I highly recommend the new all glass roof on the Model S. This was very hard to develop, but it makes the interior feel amazing.

As you can see this upgrade also comes with another upgrade that strengthens the rest of the structure of the Model S which already has a 5 Star+ safety rating in all segments. In another question about the A & B pillars with the glass roof option Elon replied;

Primarily aluminium with hot-stamped boron steel reinforcements. B pillar has a glass overlay.

We already have seen the glass overlay for the B pillars in the Model X. Also there are some cons with the new glass roof option as well.

Glass Roof Cons:

#i: Besides it looks beautiful on the outside and in, it costs you $1,500 additional

#ii: When you select Glass Roof option there is no place for Roof Racks & Satellite Radio Antenna, so you’ll need to compromise on your Sirius XM Listening.

#iii: The old panoramic roof is now named the “Sun Roof” in Tesla Design Studio. The price for it has hiked to $2,000 and is required for Roof Racks & Satellite Radio options.

You can compare both Glass & Sun Roof options for the Model S above taken from the Tesla Design Studio. Tesla claims that the new Glass Roof is has a 5 Star+ safety in even a roll-over accident.

2. Model S Successfully Mind Controlled

Like Telepathy there is a new term in town now called “Teslapathy”. This was a small 36 hour experimental project by the guys at Callhacks and they successfully executed the “Go” and “Stop” commands from their brain to Tesla Model S (video below). You can read details of their project here.

3. Model S Easter Eggs

This was probably the month of Model S Easter Eggs and they kept coming one after the other. The first and the most important one that rocked the world of ICE cars was the P100D performance upgrade that will make Model S go from 0 – 60 in just 2.4 seconds and this is the quickest for any production vehicle in the world, even the Porsche 918 Spyder does it in 2.5 seconds. I previously did a bit detailed article on this easter egg you can view here.

The 2nd one started with a video posted by Tesla that shows the potential of Autopilot Full Self-Driving Hardware (below) playing the iconic Paint It Black soundtrack in the background. This is when a on Twitter @veritasDK asked Elon Musk if he can get this update on his Model S which is due to be delivered in the end of Dec and Elon replied;

That and Paint It Black will both be uploaded for free as Easter (holiday?) eggs

The third one is a bit new and satisfies the grievances of the owners of the base Model S 60 for which Elon replied on Twitter that they will have Easter Eggs too.

Are ther ever Easter Eggs for 60kWh?
Are ther ever Easter Eggs for 60kWh? Elon: Yes
