Next-gen Tesla Roadster

Tesla Roadster 0-60 time can reach 1.1 sec with the SpaceX thrusters package

I originally wrote this article on our new Tesla news website Tesla Oracle.

Elon Musk’s companies always keep pushing the boundaries of innovation, be it Tesla, SpaceX, or The Boring Company — a Science related YouTube channel ‘Engineering Explained’ scientifically explains that the Next-gen Tesla Roadster can go from 0-60 mph in just ~1.1 seconds.

Tesla (TSLA) claims that the new Tesla Roadster will be able to perform a 0-60 mph run in just 1.9 seconds without any modifications, this is due to the massive 200 kWh battery pack, lighter weight of the body structure, super-fine aerodynamics, and Tesla’s vehicle software which is way ahead of the competition right now.

Elon Musk never disclosed the possible 0-60 mph time for the Next-gen Roadster with the SpaceX cold gas thrusters but once he said that the car will be able to accelerate at the limit of human endurance, this thought might be scary for some but exciting for others at the same time.

There will be a total of 10 gas thrusters installed in the new Tesla Roadster if someone buys the optional SpaceX Package, the owner will have to sacrifice the rear seat of the sports car which might not be a problem for the ones keeping an expensive sports supercar. Most of these thrusters will be directed downwards and according to Musk, the car will be able to hover in the air for limited time periods with the help of this downward force.

However, some of the thrusters will be hidden behind the license plate that will help push the Tesla Roadster horizontally in the forward direction, and a tank filled with 10,000 psi of compressed cold air pressure, that’s going to alleviate acceleration to new levels and create horizontal G-force level that might only be comparable to airplanes or rockets.

The Engineering Explained host Jason Fenske’s calculations show that the weight of the Tesla Roadster could be around 2,000 kg (~4,410 lbs) which is slightly lower than the Tesla Model S sedan which is quite large in terms of vehicle size — the Roadster has a bigger battery pack but interestingly, the SpaceX ultra-high pressure compressed air thrusters installed in the car will still be able to take it from 0-60 mph in just above a single second in time.

Let’s watch Jason’s Math, Physics, and Engineering class to understand how he came up with this amazing result.
