Tesla Model 3 in a side impact crash test by the Australian NCAP, scores perfect 5-stars in overall tests.

Tesla Model 3 scores perfect 5-star safety ratings in Australian ANCAP crash tests

Tesla Model 3 is coming to Australia next month and before that, it was extensively tested for crash safety and collision avoidance by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) — as usual Tesla Model 3 racks up the highest safety score i.e. 5-stars in every category.

Earlier this month the Euro NCAP authority gave the Tesla Model 3 a perfect 5-star safety rating in addition to the previous accolade of 5-stars in every category from NHTSA in the United States, looks like excellence in safety has become a habit at Tesla Inc.

The ANCAP safety ratings are for the Australia and New Zealand region, the ANCAP CEO released a statement on Twitter regarding the Model 3 crash and collision avoidance test results:

ANCAP also released the following detailed video of the crash and collision avoidance tests on their YouTube channel, some interesting tests to look at, several of the tests are based on Euro NCAP and in addition the authority published a separate report (pdf below).

Looking at the above Tesla Model 3 crash tests is impressive but the Model 3 truly shines at the side-impact tests, side pole impact test is truly a thing to look at, the pole barely penetrates the car as the rigid battery pack provides an extra layer of safety with a near-perfect center of gravity.

Tesla Model 3 achieved 96% score in Adult Occupant Protection, 87% in Child Occupant Protection (vs. 86% by Euro NCAP), 74% in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 94% in Safety Assist category (highest score achieved against current protocols of the ANCAP).

ANCAP CEO Mr. James Goodwin stated the following about Model 3 safety in a press release yesterday:

“This is an impressive result, and great to see electric vehicles continuing to prioritise safety” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Mr James Goodwin.

“It is encouraging to see Tesla give equal attention to the active safety systems and technologies on board as well as the safety fundamentals through the structure and restraints,” Mr Goodwin said.
