Rivian is headed for Overland Expo in Arizona after a warm presence at the NY Auto Show

Rivian is getting the world’s attention with their electric adventure vehicles as they showcased the R1T Pickup Truck and R1S SUV to the reservation holders in NYC just ahead of the New York Auto Show last month.

This year has been a great one for the electric vehicle maker as the company secured more than $1.2B in two investment rounds from Amazon and Ford Motor Company — this places Rivian in a good position for starting deliveries on the promised late 2020 timeline.

Rivian presented both of its R1T Pickup Truck and R1S SUV at the New York Auto Show last month and by looking at the pictures from the event it seems the company’s stall got a lot of attention (pics below).

Now the electric automaker is heading for the Overland Expo in Flagship, Arizona where the company’s design and engineering team will present the Rivian R1T Pickup Truck and even hold Q&A sessions with fellow adventurers.

Overland Expo is an event for adventure enthusiasts like campers, motorcyclists, and riders that wander the off-road territories unlike the normal population — Rivian is targeting the right community which aligns with its manifesto.

Rivian will be presenting the R1T Electric Pickup Truck at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff, AZ from 17th to 19th May, the timings of the exhibition will be Fri 9-5, Sat 8-5, Sun 8-3 (more info).

Tesla is Rivian’s main competitor in the electric vehicle manufacturing realm, as Tesla has grown to be a giant corporation now, Rivian has to go a long way in terms of growth to be a true competitor but Tesla has yet to present a fully off-road capability vehicle like a Pickup Truck that it has teased but it has not yet materialized in any form.

The hardcore off-roader Rivian R1T pickup truck has a clear edge on Tesla and if Rivian is successful in following their production timelines, Rivian should be able to capture this huge U.S. automotive market.

Rivian also claims that their R1T Pickup is the most aerodynamic truck in the world as it ensembles years of design and engineering collaboration of their teams, Rivian stayed around 9 years in stealth-mode! Rivian explains this in one of their video tweets:

Another important information about the Rivian vehicles battery cooling system is also unveiled by the company on Twitter in an answer to a question from a follower:

Our thermal control system is designed to maintain proper battery temperature in any weather, including the bitter cold. This allows for maximum towing and maximum range in these conditions as well.

Rivian’s solution of a thermal control system for battery-pack temperatures is a piece of good news as rugged use of these EVs for off-road adventures will require cooling and warming depending on the weather and terrain conditions.
