Elon Musk sets 2019 Tesla goals: 400k deliveries, 500k/year production rate

Tesla seems to have a clear path ahead when it comes to the Silicon-Valley based automaker’s 2019 production goals — Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the company is on the right track for delivering 400,000 vehicles in 2019.

Elon Musk also said that Tesla will gain 10k/week production rate that roughly translates to 500k/year of vehicle production by year-end, this does not seem impossible since the Tesla Gigafactory 3 in China is on a fast track development.

Tesla CEO explained this phenomenon in a series of tweets yesterday.

Tesla’s Model 3 production and delivery is already on asteroids since large shipments and even fleet sales are happening in Europe right now.

A glimpse of Tesla sales push in Europe can be witnessed through the following aerial photo taken at the San Francisco port where 4,000 Tesla EVs are waiting to be shipped to Europe, of course, most of these shiny glass roofs are Tesla Model 3s.

Tesla Model 3 production has the majority share at the Tesla Fremont factory and for current figures, we have to rely on different sources to estimate the current rate of production. Bloomberg has built a Model 3 production tracker that indicates a total of 200,000+ Model 3s produced with a weekly production number reaching ~5,500.

In Q4, 2018 Tesla Model S and Model X production was around 2,000 units per week, assuming this number is sustained Tesla is producing well over 7,000 vehicles per week as of now, the 400k+ production and delivery seem totally possible for 2019.

Bloomberg's Tesla Model 3 production tracker as of 20 Feb, 2019. 202,714 total Model 3s produced and 5,561 units weekly production rate.

Producing 200k+ electric vehicles on an entirely new platform within 18 months of production is a great feat itself, according to data the entire EV industry sales for 2017 were 199,826 vehicles sold.

If Tesla is able to deliver ~400k electric vehicles this year, we will experience history in the making, no other carmaker has achieved in an entirely new vehicle segment, at least in the 21st century.

As we have lately been reporting that Europe is flooded with Tesla Model 3s as of now, let’s check out some latest photos and info from the continent showing the Model 3 disruption is imminent.
