Tesla Model 3 Performance price goes down in the UK, Long Range AWD removed.

Tesla lowers Model 3 Performance price in the UK, removes LR AWD, orders open in Australia, NZ, Japan, Hong Kong

Tesla is ending the month of May with a blast — removes the Long Range All-Wheel-Drive Model 3 from the UK order page, lowers the price of the Model 3 Performance in the UK, makes changes to the United States order page, and opens orders for all RHD markets i.e. New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.

The price drop for the Model 3 Performance variant came as a surprise to existing Tesla UK customers who already have placed orders for the Long Range AWD version for a significant amount of extra cash they might have later used to get a Performance Model 3 — but that’s always an early adopter’s dilemma.

When our co-author Paul Atkins from the UK tweeted to Elon Musk about the Model 3 Performance price drop in the country, Elon Musk responded and said that the idea is to present the Model 3 Performance as ‘best value for money’ Tesla car — Paul has already ordered his LR AWD Model 3, FSD, Blue and 19” alloys for £55,200.

Elon Musk has recently been mentioning that price changes are rampant in the auto industry, Tesla receives the most flak for making these price adjustments — the UK price changes and removing the LR RWD variant has come so fast, the order page for the Brits went live only about 30 days ago and according to last reports there were 3,000+ orders placed for the RHD Model 3 from the United Kingdom.

Tesla has not changed the RHD Model 3 Standard Range Plus price in the UK, it stays the same i.e. £38,900 but the Model 3 Performance starting price dropped from £56,900 to £49,440 that is a whopping £7,460 (-13%) price decrease but there is a caveat you can notice while browsing the UK Model 3 design studio, the following Performance upgrades are not included in the starting price:

  • 20” Performance Wheels
  • Performance Brakes
  • Carbon fiber spoiler
  • Lowered suspension
  • Aluminum alloy pedals
  • Increased top speed from 145mph to 162mph
  • Track Mode

These upgrades that make a Performance Model 3 a true performance electric car now cost an additional £3,700 — without these upgrades, this is closer to a Long Range AWD Model 3, even the wheels are 18″ Aero caps — on the other side of the map, the United States gets all these upgrades included when you select the ‘Performance’ variant in the Model 3 online design studio/order page.

United States Tesla Model 3 Order Page Change

I created the following animated GIF to highlight the new toggle button added to the Tesla Model 3 order page also called the online design studio, this toggle button switches the pricing between the actual ‘Purchase Price’ and the pricing that ‘Include Potential Savings’, this option clears a lot of confusion Tesla customers faced earlier when placing an order online.

Tesla and Elon Musk have also been blamed for shadowing the real pricing and vehicle costs and some even called it a ‘malpractice’ to show the price with potential savings over time to customers and only showing the actual price the customer will pay at the time of the purchase in the bottom left corner, now the clouds should be cleared in the naysayers minds as well.

This toggle button is currently only available on the United States and Canada Model 3 order pages.

I feel for Paul – I’m in *exactly* the same position!! just found out now that the performance version, thus 3.2s 0-60 for £990 more than my current LR AWD order.. and all I have to forgo are the 19″ sport wheels in exchange fro the 18″ Aero wheels… That sux BIG time tesla!!! I think tesla should allow us to change our orders to a P3D or refund us!
