Tesla Model X 5 Seat Configuration

Model X 5 Seat Configuration – Cargo Space With Folding 2nd Row Video & Photos

Tesla recently heard the voices of their customers longing for more cargo space in Model X by offering a 5 seat configuration that allows best in class cargo space while the 2nd row is folded flat. Until now we only had information but with a video (below) by ‘bossmilion’ on YouTube visiting the Fremont factory and demonstrating this unseen feature till now.

The 2nd row seat is a fold-flat 60/40 split ratio that allows for different combinations of cargo & passengers in the back. With 2nd row flat the new Model X has best in class 88 cubic feet of phenomenal cargo space.

The new 5 seat configuration seats look basic as compared to the futuristic looking 6 & 7 seat configuration seats found in the existing Model X. Seats can be easily folded flat with a regular pull-lever on the sides & Tesla kept it basic because the new configuration doesn’t need sliding and tilting for 3rd row passenger entry and exit.

Two removable panels on the 2nd row seat and the area that would otherwise be the third row make it possible for the cargo area to be full-flat approx a size a of a full mattress also there is ample storage under these panels. Let’s compare Model X with other same class SUVs for cargo space;

  • Tesla Model X – 88.0 ft³
  • 2017 Volvo CX90 – 85.7 ft³
  • 2017 Audi Q7 – 71.6 ft³
  • 2017 BMW X5 – 66.0 ft³
  • 2017 Volkswagen Touareg – 64.0 ft³
  • 2017 Porsche Cayenne – 62.9 ft³
