Tesla Model 3 spotted with camouflaged roof, what might be cooking

A latest spy video (below) of a spotted Red Tesla Model 3 release candidate #57 shows the roof of the car is camouflaged while testing. Although today marks the day when first ever production Model 3 comes off the assembly line at the Tesla Fremont Factory but still testing is going on.

Technorama (YouTube) released the video where the occupant was able to capture a video while both cars were driving on highway. The need for hiding the glass roof seems out of question as Tesla glass roofs are UV & Infrared resistant to protect occupants from exposure to heat and harm.

Hiding the roof would only be due to two reasons (speculation alert):

#1: A Metal Roof

This is least likely to happen but not totally beyond consideration, if somehow Tesla is able to lower the cost of a solid metal roof in contrast to the Glass Roof this would happen.

Also since Tesla posted that the Glass Roof will be optional in their Model S vs Model 3 comparison chart, this solid metal roof is likely the default setup that comes to mind. One thing is for sure that the owners will be getting the cheapest most cost-effective roof option to make Model 3 production to be profitable at some point.

#2: This is a ‘Solar Roof’

Last year Elon Musk answered a series of tweets related to a Solar Roof on a Model 3 and He said ‘probably’ they will offer that as an option. The testing of this option at this time seems too early as everyone thought this would take time to be developed, but unlike the past Tesla and Elon Musk are ahead of time at least with Model 3 production and deliveries.

This solar charging roof technology which Musk denied will be ‘super expensive’ might be available sooner than expected with premium options such as AWD (All Wheel Drive) Model 3 will be available next year.

A solar charging roof would also be effective in charging the vehicle according to Elon Musk if it is integrated as a ‘deployable solar shield like a retractable hard top’.
