What exciting times to live in other than the era of the ‘Elon Musk’ ! Today Elon Musk announced that The Boring Company has got the verbal approval of the Government to build Hyperloop tunnels from New York to Washington D.C.

Although this is a verbal approval but Elon Musk believes getting a formal approval will be a rapid and smooth process, this maybe due to there is no competition and the eagerness of the Government to start the fastest mass transportation system yet.

Elon Musk estimates the travel time to be around 29 mins from NY to D.C. via the Hyperloop enabled tunnels. Previously when The Boring Company updated their FAQ section we wrote how the tunnels will be converted to Hyperloop tubes and what are nature’s challenges in doing so.

He blasted the following news a couple hours ago via his Twitter account:

So now Elon Musk has explicitly said the tunnels will be Hyperloop enabled that means the travel will be even faster than the electric sled demonstration video from his first tunnel under LA. NY to D.C.

When we look at the Google Maps (below) the shortest distance from New York to Washington D.C. is 226 miles ( 363.7 km ) and if we assume the route Elon Musk is mentioning is around the same distance to cover it in 29 mins will be to travel approximately 450 mph ( 721 km/h).

The fastest we can get from NY to D.C. is by a direct flight and even that takes 55 mins. The current Hyperloop circle covers four cities of four different states and according to Elon Musk travelers will be able to be able to enter and exit to and from 12 points in each city.

This means if you want to go from New York to Philadelphia only it would take around 6-8 minutes. In another tweet Elon Musk says the first tunnels project will take care of the LA traffic congestion and the NY to D.C. tunnels work will start in parallel.

So there is another Hyperloop loop in the plans that covers the Los Angeles to San Francisco and touches Texas as well. No other exciting times to be in other than the era of the ‘Elon
